DAY 3 - ALOLA TO VASI CAMPSITE
Saturday 11 October
It rained all night so, a wet track today as the trekkers started with a short 15-minute trek out of camp to the village of village of Alola. The team stopped at at the museum and then trekked through the village and down to the creek with some amazing views along the way. They crossed the creek before a short and steep up and then continued for an hour to a short break, before another 1 hour of trekking across to see a Japanese ammunition dump. Then it was another 40-minute trek to Eora Creek for morning tea. Luckily, they fuelled up here as then they had a steep climb for 45 minutes to visit an Australian ammunition dump, containing live Australian grenades and mortars. Then it was back onto the track for a long undulating hike for 2.5 hours to Templeton's Crossing for lunch by the creek.
There were periods or sun on & off for most of the day and after lunch it was another tough climb for 30 minutes, then a little easier trek for 30 minutes, before a short break at the top of the final climb for the day. Then they trekked a down for 30 minutes into tonight's camping village over the top of a beautiful creek at 5pm. Day 3 was another tough day and they are now braving the chilly creek before enjoying some more popcorn.
