DAY 7: NAURO TO UA ULE CREEK

Sunday 26 April

It was a tough trek out of camp to start the day with a steep climb for an hour to some amazing views of the Maguli Ranges at the summit. It was here that the Japanese reported they could see the lights of Moresby. Then a long hike across and down for 90 minutes for a rest break, before another 60 minutes to visit some Japanese slit trenches. Then a short hike down to Ofi Creek for a swim, which was much needed as today was hot and dry. After this they were up-to the campsite for morning tea. After morning tea, it was another tough one up-to Irobaiwa Ridge, this was the final advance of the main Japanese army. The trekkers dropped their packs here and took a short hike to see a Japanese Ammunition Dump, and Japanese slit trenches. Before trekking back to the track and down the ridge to the Village of Irobaiwa for lunch. After lunch the trekkers hiked down to Ua Ule Creek for a quick break before trekking across the fast-flowing creek a dozen or so times, on the way to the Ua Ule creek camp for there last night on the track. They are excited and looking forward to Imita Ridge tomorrow before the finish line, Owers’ Cnr where they are hoping to be all done by 12:30 pm.
