DAY 5 - KAGI TO BRIGADE HILL

Thursday 24 April

The trekkers enjoyed a great time listening to the villagers sing last night and started this morning with a short 10-minute walk out of the village past the church and airstrip. Then they hit the steepest decent of the trek, a tough, 45-minute downhill hike to the creek for a short break and to top up their water. Then yet another short but tough climb for 10 minutes before a 45-minute hike exposed to the sun until they reached Efogi 2 for a break. After this they made their way down to Efogi 1, visited the museum here and then it was a short hike through Efogi village to the creek for another water refill. Then it was a tough climb out in the open to Mission Ridge, and that climb hurt a few due to trekking in the hot weather with an extremely dry track. Then it was a short hike to Brigade Hill where they inspected the Bone man of Kokoda tree. They then held a service here and listened to more unbelievable stories of the conflict. The trekkers are thankful for the cloudy weather and are all doing well. They made it into camp at 12:50pm are now enjoying a shorter day and looking forward to commemorating Anzac Day tomorrow.
