DAY 3 TREKKING: ALOLA TO VASI CAMPSITE

Monday 25 August

The day began trekking through Alola and down to the creek enjoying more magnificent views down the valley. They crossed the creek here and then it was a short climb up, and then a long hike for 1.5 with a few short breaks to the site of a Japanese ammunition dump just off the track. Then 30 minutes to Eora creek for morning tea where they had another good rest. After morning tea, it was another big climb for 40 minutes to see an Australian ammunition dump containing hundreds of live grenades and ammunition just off the track. Then back onto the track for a long 2.5-hour hike of undulating terrain into Templeton’s crossing for lunch by the water. The trekkers have now experienced a muddy track in places on the trek, after being lucky enough to have dry track conditions. After lunch they trekked a tough climb for an hour in the light rain, for a rest at the top, before a nice decline into tonight’s campsite by the creek where they arrived in good time. There are a few well out of their comfort zone and although buggered have a great positive attitude. After arriving in camp at 3:30pm they are braving the cold and chilly waters of Vasi campsite and washing the all the mud off, while the others are enjoying the sunshine, a nice hot tea, coffee and popcorn.

MESSAGES: Jo & Caleb, all well here, long day out. Going good. Love you, Darryl.
