DAY 7 - NAURO TO UA UL CREEK
Friday 29 August
It was a tough trek out of camp to start the day with a steep climb for an hour to some amazing views of the Maguli Ranges at the summit. It was here that the Japanese reported they could see the lights of Moresby. Then a long hike across and down for 90 minutes for a rest break, before another 60 minutes to visit some Japanese slit trenches. Then a short hike down to Ofi Creek for a swim and up-to the campsite for morning tea. The trekkers experienced both dry weather and a dry track! After morning tea, it was another tough one up-to Irobaiwa Ridge; and although the track was dry it was a difficult climb. This was the final advance of the main Japanese army. The trekkers dropped their packs here and took a short hike to see a Japanese Ammunition Dump, and Japanese slit trenches. Before trekking back to the track and down the ridge to the Village of Irobaiwa for lunch. After lunch the trekkers hiked down to Ua Ule Creek for a quick break before trekking across the fast-flowing creek a dozen or so times, on the way to the Ua Ule creek camp site where they arrived at 4:30pm. The trekkers had a great day and are now enjoying a swim. They are excited and looking forward to Imita Ridge tomorrow before the finish line, Owers Cnr.
Message: The Luton girls are doing fine & excited to see everyone Sunday night.
