DAY 8 - IORIBAIWA VILLAGE TO GOOD-WATE
Monday 10 November
The crew started the day hiking down from Ioribaiwa village for an hour to Ua Ule Creek, where a few of the trekkers changed into their river shoes. They then trekked across the creek a dozen or so times, on the way to the Ua Ule creek camp for a break. After resting here they trekked straight back into the creek and crossed it another 1/2 dozen times for an hour on the way to the base of Imita Ridge. They then trekked up Imita for an hour and many said this was the toughest climb of the trek. (Photo as below) Imita Ridge was the final withdrawal of the main Australian army and this was the place they where told that they must make their final stand. Then they trekked down Imita ridge for an hour on the way to Goodwater village, where they rested and had a good break . The day was very hot however, the track was pretty slippery & muddy from the rain yesterday as they trekked another hour onto there “Goldie River” arriving at 2:30pm where they all enjoyed a good swim. They are now having their final dinner on the track and looking forward the finish line tomorrow.
