DAY 8: UA ULE CREEK TO OWERS' CRN

Thursday 16 July

The trekkers rose early for their final battle cry on the Kokoda Track before setting off, moving in and out of the creek for an hour on the way to the base of Imita Ridge. Regrouping here, they then took on their second-last climb of the trek, pushing up and over Imita on their way toward the Goldie River.

After crossing the river, the group paused for a brief chat and a chance to reflect on the previous eight days of trekking—on the history, the hardship, and how far they had come. From there, it was an easier 40-minute hike, followed by a final steep 20-minute push in the exposed sun until, emotionally and triumphantly, they arrived at Owers’ Corner: the end of the Kokoda Track.

Now, they are celebrating their achievement with a well-earned BBQ, cold Moët champagne, and beers before boarding bus bound for Port Moresby. On the way, they will visit Bomana War Cemetery to pay their respects to the Australian soldiers who died during the Kokoda campaign and other Pacific campaigns.

Tonight, the trekkers will come together with their guides and support crew to celebrate an incredible shared achievement and the completion of a journey they will never forget.
