DAY 4 - VASI CAMPSITE TO KAGI VILLAGE

Friday 24 July

They group rose early and left Vasi, crossing a bridge before a 20-minute approach to the day’s first climb. After a tough push they reached a lookout, then continued another hour to the track’s highest point, Mt Bellamy, where the group paused for a photo. A further hour carried them through the moss forest to a break, then on for another hour to the spectacular Myola views. They dropped packs and walked out onto the crater to discuss the site’s history before returning to their gear and descending for an hour to Bomber’s Camp for lunch and to inspect a crashed American bomber.

After lunch they rejoined the track for a long 2.5-hour section—flat, up, down and up again—into Kagi Village, the halfway point of the track. The weather was perfect for trekking again today as the trekkers arrived into camp at 4:20pm and received a warm traditional Kagi welcome.
