You are most welcome to ask for details and or a copy of our insurance certificate.

Emergency Evacuation Costs and Claims

Medivac’s on the Kokoda track can be very timely and can result in delays of up to 24 hours between the time an emergency call is placed and the arrival of a medivac helicopter. These delays can be due to unpredictable weather conditions preventing a helicopter from departing Port Moresby and or flying to the site of the evacuation. Also, most medivac companies will require prepayment prior to departure. Australian Kokoda Tours has a long-standing relationship with NIB travel insurance and your medivac will not require pre-payment.

If you have a travel insurance policy with a company other than NIB, you must agree to pay either your excess and or the cost of your medivac prior to departing PNG.

You will also be required to pay for any additional transport, accommodation, and meal costs prior to your departure from Port Moresby and claim these costs against your policy after you return to Australia.

Australian Kokoda Tours will require details of your Travel Insurance four (4) weeks prior to your trek departure date.  Details should include your Travel Insurance provider, policy number and 24-hour medical emergency phone number.  Email the information to: admin@australiankokodatours.com.au.

Personal Travel Insurance:

Emergency Medical & Evacuation Insurance is mandatory for all trekkers and is strongly advised once your deposit has been paid. Trip cancellation insurance will reimburse you for any non-recoverable air or land expenses should you have to cancel your trip due to personal or family illness or leave the expedition early due to other reasons. It will also cover any emergency medical evacuation expenses should you become ill during the expedition.

We also strongly recommend you ensure your insurance includes baggage loss and accident insurance. In the event that an aircraft evacuation is required, we will undertake to arrange the evacuation on the condition that the expenses will be reimbursed by the passenger before departing the country.
